X-ray Technician Steals Clinic’s Dh30K
DUBAI: A Filipino X-ray technician has been accused of stealing from the medical clinic where he worked around Dh30,000 in cash and a cheque worth Dh3,500, media reports said.
The 37-year-old Filipino technician, R.B., was said to have walked into the office of the clinic’s manager and stole the cash and cheque from the safe after he opened it with a key in August, reported Gulf News.
Prosecutors reportedly accused R.B. of robbing from his workplace.
The suspect pleaded guilty when he showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
“Yes I stole the money and cash,” R.B. reportedly said as he entered his plea and requested leniency before presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.
An Indian accountant reportedly testified to prosecutors that he discovered the heist when he opened the safe wanting to take the money and deposit it in the bank.
“When I entered the manager’s office, I realized that the safe was left open. I informed my manager immediately and he reported the police. Upon examining the CCTV cameras, we discovered that R.B. had sneaked into the office the previous night and stole the money,” the accountant was quoted as saying by Gulf News.
An Egyptian employee reportedly testified to prosecutor: “The defendant switched off the lights when he entered the office to steal from the safe … he was not aware that the surveillance camera’s system functions on the night vision mode.”
The ruling is on December 9, said the news portal.
