Vietnam Warns of New Zika Infection Cases in Coming Time

HANOI, Sept. 6 (PNA/Xinhua) — Vietnam is likely to report new Zika infection cases in the coming time, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

Zika virus infection cases have been reported in Vietnam in the past and the number of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes transmitting the Zika and dengue virus is increasing in Vietnam’s current rainy season.

Travel exchanges among countries in the southeast Asia also post a high risk for Zika spreading as the virus is present in Vietnam’s neighbors including Singapore, the ministry’s General Department of Preventive Medicine said on its website.

So far, Vietnam has tested as many as 2,554 samples and detected three cases which were positive with Zika virus in southern Ho Chi Minh City, central Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the two main air gateways to Vietnam, while Khanh Hoa is a popular tourist destination.

Vietnam’s National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology will hold training courses for medical workers across the country to show them how to test patients. (PNA/Xinhua)
