Verification of HSW Contract Not Resuming, Says PH Official

Dubai: Recruitment of household service workers (HSWs) from the Philippines will not resume as expected as talks revolving around the issue is still on, an official said.

“The Philippine government’s position in sending household service workers (HSWs) to the UAE remains. There are no changes. Meaning we are not resuming the verification of contracts of HSWs,” Philippine Labor Attache Ofelia Domingo said in media interviews.

Domingo added that Secretary Silvestre Bello III is yet to be briefed on the ongoing negotiations.

She said,“I cannot comment on the bilateral talks because it is still ongoing. Currently, we are just waiting for the new labor policy to be announced by Secretary Bello.”

The Philippines has stopped deployment of HSWs to the UAE since 2014 because of some unresolved issues pertaining to recruitment rules between the UAE and labor-sending countries such as the Philippines.

A series of bilateral talks between the UAE and Philippine labor officials have been held to iron out the said issues.
