A Filipino-American lawyer may soon lead the US Justice Department’s civil division.
President Donald Trump is expected to nominate New York lawyer George T. Conway to the position, according to several media sources.
Conway, who specializes in securities litigation, is the Filipino-American husband of Kellyanne Conway, the President’s top adviser.
If confirmed by the Senate, Conway’s job would be to defend the White House administration from lawsuits. He will also take the lead in fighting for Trump’s new travel ban, which was recently blocked by judges in Hawaii and Maryland.
Conway has not issued a statement on the matter. He was previously in the running to be US Solicitor General.
