Successful Pinays Featured in New Leadership Book
SAN FRANCISCO – Fresh off their 11th annual Filipina Leadership Global Summit, the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) released its first book that features success stories of Filipina leaders in America.
The book entitled “DISRUPT: Filipina Women: Proud. Loud. Leading without a Doubt.” features 36 authors who tell their own stories of success and leadership, including prominent Fil-Ams like business magnet Loida Nicolas Lewis and White House chef Cris Comerford.
The title “DISRUPT” was chosen because Pinay leaders say they want to highlight the struggles these women had to overcome to be pioneers and achievers in their own right.
“There’s no literature on leadership out there about Filipino women leadership styles and experiences and it’s very important that we document this and that we are able to collate our strengths and weakness and start talking about how we lead, our styles of leadership and how effective we are,” said founder and CEO of FWN Marily Mondejar.
FWN continues to reach out to young Filipinas to advice and counsel them as they also make their mark in their professional lives.
They hope that through this book they can inspire more kababayans to succeed and to be proud of it.
“It is very important that we take the time to ‘fem-tor’ our young generation so that we could start developing our talent pipeline of next generation leaders with the hope that some of them will become presidents of organizations in all sectors,” said Mondejar.
The women featured in the book are among FWN’s 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World awardees.
“I’m just so proud about our authors for taking the time to reveal themselves. Sometimes, we are afraid of our beginnings. We are ashamed of our struggles but there’s really nothing to be ashamed of. This is something to be proud especially because we try so hard not only to achieve but to give back to our community,” Mondejar said.
“DISRUPT” is the first of a series of leadership books to be put out by FWN.
