Strict measures okayed to prevent ‘fraud’ in domestic labor contracts
‘New decision doesn’t obligate employers to pay ticket cost’
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 17: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed that concerned authorities have finally approved strict measures to prevent tampering with domestic labor contracts, and that the employers – citizens and residents – have the freedom to choose the method of purchasing travel tickets for domestic workers hired according to new contracts through the recruitment offices of domestic workers according to the new pricing, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In its answers to citizens’ inquiries about the value of tickets and how to purchase them, the ministry added that the new decision does not obligate employers to pay the value of the ticket to the offices, and each sponsor can book it himself and hand over the ticket to the office according to his choices and desire. The sources pointed out that the price of the new contracts announced represents the maximum recruitment limit specified in the decision, and does not include the travel ticket, and it was uploaded to the employer to give him the opportunity to control the appropriate price according to his capacity.
The sources stated that the separation of the value of the ticket from the value of the contracts aims to establish the contract and prevent the manipulation of costs by some offices or by raising the value of the ticket that changes according to the seasons. Moreover, the ministry called on citizens to make all payments through the K-net and refuse to pay cash while dealing with the workers recruiting offices.
