FLORIDA – The Filipino community in Florida believes there is plenty of Filipino-American talent to be discovered in the southern United States.
“One Night Only” is a showcase of the Filipino-American talent to raise funds to help the victims of recent calamities in the Philippines. For kababayans, it was a rare treat to see their very own local performers on center stage.
“It’s a way for us to kind of thrive and make our presence known not only in Destin. We wanna try to hit this whole region and really kind of expose some of the great talent that’s out here,” said Eugene Eash.
From Fil-Am rock band singers to comedy and pop, “One Night Only” was definitely a night to remember for Filipinos in the sunshine state.
“It was a really great show, very entertaining, just all around, good fun, great music, great talent, just really fantastic,” said Laura Cruz.
Singer and stand-up comic Jinky channeled some of the best Filipino comedians in her comedy show.
“Importante kasi sa akin mapatawa ko yung audience ko, kahit hindi ako masyadong kagalingan, kahit hindi ako masyadong kagandahan, basta mapatawa ko sila so masarap na sa pakiramdam,” said Jinky.
Eash said that to put something together in a short amount of time was challenging. “When it all comes together and pulls through together, there’s nothing like it. It’s like a masterpiece you know.”
