A 20-year-old Filipina lost her life in a two-car crash on I-65 in Gary, Indiana.
Authorities said Samantha Salvador from Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was one of three passengers in a green Honda Civic being driven by Rose Katcher past 6:00 a.m. last Thursday.
They were reportedly traveling north on 1-65 when Katcher attempted to take a left turn onto US-20, but ended up striking a median and a Chevrolet Malibu that was heading south on 1-65.
Katcher and the driver of the Malibu sustained non-life threatening injuries. The other two unnamed passengers in the Civic were seriously injured.
Salvador, who was from Bacolod City, Philippines, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Salvador’s family said it’s been especially tough for them since they also lost her grandfather the same week that their beloved daughter died.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Salvador’s family with funeral expenses. So far, the campaign has reached $18,155 of its $4,000 goal.
