Over 3,000 OFWs still awaiting repatriation

OVER 3,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are currently awaiting to be repatriated by the Marcos administration, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

Citing data from the One Repatriation Command Center, DMW Secretary Susan Ople said 3,431 out of the 5,066 requests they have received for repatriation assistance are still awaiting responses.

“These pending cases are now under negotiation in various overseas labor posts as some require legal and medical assistance,” said Ople.

On the other hand, the DMW head said the other 1,600 OFWs have already returned home after seeking repatriation.

“There are 1,635 of such cases that are deemed successfully resolved with the return of our OFWs,” said Ople.

According to DMW, the One Repatriation Command Center stands ready to help distressed OFWs looking to be reunited with their respective families.

The agency’s hotline for those seeking repatriation is 1346.

DMW also said that OFW families and distressed workers may send an email to repat@dmw.gov.ph. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
