OFWs Traumatized after Taiwan Quake: Pinay Expat
Many overseas Filipino workers in Taiwan were traumatized after a powerful earthquake rattled the country’s south, a Pinay expatriate shared Saturday.
Hazel Barrio-Lobete, a factory worker, said she woke up at past 3 a.m. when the magnitude 6.4 earthquake centered in Tainan city struck.
Lobete said she was shocked as the dormitory she shares with some 1,000 other Filipinos swayed.
She said no one in their dormitory was hurt but they remain frightened.
“Medyo may mga trauma po kaming lahat dito,” she said.
Lobete added that some of her other Pinoy co-workers were still stranded at their factory. Some suffered broken bones and wounds or were in a state of shock, she said.
They have yet to receive reports of other Filipinos injured or killed in the tremor.
Five people have been confirmed dead so far after the earthquake toppled a 17-storey building in Tainan. More than 100 people have been pulled from the wreckage.
Several buildings also tilted at alarming angles in the city of two million people.
