OFW-Turned-Money Lender Found Dead in Rizal

A former OFW turned businesswoman was found dead in a grassy field in Antipolo City earlier this week with multiple stab wounds on her body, according to a report by GMA News’ Emil Sumangil on “24 Oras” on Friday.

The body of Miriam Bermas, 48, was dumped in front of a cemetery, the report said. Aside from the stab wounds mostly in her chest, her upper lip was also torn. Police have ruled out robbery as the victim was found with all her jewelry intact.

Bermas’ relatives believe she knew her killer and are looking into the possibility that the killing is connected with her money-lending business.

“Puro naman dun umiikot ang every ano niya, ‘yung routine niya. Maniningil, kokolektahin ‘yung mga ganitong payroll,” said Mimi Bermas, the victim’s daughter, in the report.

Based on CCTV footage taken by security cameras outside the gym she went to with her friends on June 19, Bermas was last seen alive entering a Toyota Fortuner.

She was still wearing the same outfit she was seen sporting in the gym when her body was found, the report said.

Mimi urged her mother’s killer to surrender. “I’m sure na kahit papano natulungan ka ng nanay ko. How could you even do that? Puro sa puso, parang ganun. Gusto kitang maintindihan. So kung uusigin ka ng konsensiya mo,” she said.

Rizal Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Adriano Enong Jr. said the case will be transferred to his division to expedite the probe.

“Dito na sa provincial level ko paimbestigahan ito. Parang i-takeover namin yung kaso para lang magkakaroon ng linaw itong kaso na ito,” Enong said.Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
