Maid, Boyfriend Lose Appeal in Dubai Robbery Case
DUBAI: A maid, who connived with her boyfriend to rob her sponsor of Dh150,000 cash and Dh10,000 worth of gold jewelry, must spend three years in jail with him, a Dubai court has ruled.
Filipina SK, 30, was found guilty of robbery, sleeping with the unemployed Pakistani man AA, 32, and aiding him to sneak into the villa in Al Warqaa area for the theft on March 2, reported Gulf Today.
AA was convicted of entering the villa without permission of SK’s Emirati sponsor, engaging in an illicit affair with SK and aiding her to rob her sponsor, the report said.
The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced them to three years in jail to be followed by deportation. They appealed the ruling. The Appeals Court has upheld it, said the news portal.
The sponsor narrated that the maid had been working at his villa since four years. She robbed him and absconded. “She and AA fled with my 35 kg safe and my wife’s purse.
“The safe contained Dh150,000, documents and family photos. The purse contained the jewelry,” the sponsor reportedly said, adding that the valuables were inside a drawer in the changing room.
“I was at work at round 9am. My wife contacted and alerted me the safe and purse were missing and the maid was nowhere to be seen. I contacted the police.”
A neighbor’s driver reportedly revealed that at 7am he spotted a man walking out of the villa, carrying a carton-like thing on his shoulder and thought he worked at the villa.
An Emirati lieutenant revealed that the maid was arrested in Satwa area at around 5pm on Mar.9. AA was arrested in Rashidiyah area at around 7.30pm, the report pointed out.
They reportedly confessed during police questioning. AA said they met on social media.
They went on discussing their deteriorating financial status until SK alerted AA there were valuables in the villa that would help them get out of poverty.
On March 1, she smuggled him inside and he lurked in her bedroom until 6am when the sponsor left for work and his kids left for school. Without the wife’s notice, SK directed AA to the sponsor’s bedroom to carry the safe outside. He wrapped it in a trash bag.
She reportedly snatched the wife’s purse from her bag and they fled to Satwa in a taxi. He rented a room for her then took the safe to an abandoned house in Jumeirah where he smashed it.
He removed cash, hurled the safe with its other contents in a trash container and returned to his house in Al Qusais. On being questioned, SK said that from the stolen valuables, AA gave her only Dh200, reported Gulf Today.
AA reportedly revealed he wired Dh100,000 to his home country and entertained himself with the remaining sum.
He took the cops to his house where he handed over the jewelry to them, said the news portal.
