ILO upgrading migrant workers’ contract for security, safety –Bello

Improving the contracts of migrant workers for their security and safety is one of the concerns of the October 27 meeting of the government sector of the International Labour Organization (ILO), according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

“We will also include in our agenda the item in improving the employment contracts of all migrant workers in order to provide them sufficient security and safety as well as proper treatment,” he said.

Bello added,  the meeting will also discuss the suggestion of democratizing the ILO by allowing all delegates to have voting authority.

Bello said that he was surprised that he was elected as the head of the government sector in the tripartite organization.
“This is the first time in 102-year existence of ILO  (there will be a chairperson) merong representative na uupo bilang chair ng ILO from an Asian country and non-voting delegate pa,” he said.
