How Grace Poe Plans to Help OFWs
Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe on Sunday said overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) should not be subjected to the “tanim-bala” extortion scheme in the airport.
Poe, during the final leg of the PiliPinas Debates held in Pangasinan, also said that Bureau of Customs employees should not open OFWs’ balikbayan boxes.
She issued the statement in response to a question from an OFW, who wants to go home from Dubai but fears unemployment in the Philippines.
“Huwag pakialaman ang balikbayan box at huwag taniman ng bala ang bag,” she said.” Ang terminal fees, dapat wala na. Dapat red carpet treatment.”
Poe said that if she is elected President, a 24-hour hotline will be set up to help OFWs in distress or those who want to go home but are unsure of what lies in store for them.
“Kailangan din pangalagaan ang ating mga seaman. Ang terminal fees, dapat wala na. Dapat red carpet treatment,” she said.
“Magkakaroon ng bilateral talks sa ibang bansa para matulungan kayo,” she added. “Maraming problema ang dulot ng pagkakawatak-watak ng pamilya; bilang ina, gusto ko sama-sama na tayo.”
