First Pinoy Doctor in an NBA Team Gets Promoted
REDWOOD CITY, California – The first Filipino to be on the medical staff of teams from the National Basketball League and Major League Baseball has been promoted.
Dr. Erwin Valencia, team physical therapist and assistant athletic trainer for the New York Knicks, rose to the rank of Director of Training and Conditioning on Thursday.
He will lead the New York Knicks’ medical and performance staff, making him the highest ranking Filipino medical professional in professional sports.
Valencia studied at the University of the Philippines in Manila before earning advanced degrees in sports medicine and physical therapy in the United States.
