Filipino ‘Critical’ in Macau Hospital with Influenza A

The Macau Health Bureau is investigating a serious case of a migrant worker from the Philippines with influenza A.

The 54-year-old Filipino developed a fever on February 27 and was admitted to the Conde S. Januário Hospital on Monday before being transferred to the intensive care unit later the same day, Jornal San Wa Ou reported.

The man’s clinical diagnosis was influenza A and he had not received a flu shot.

The man – who also has diabetes, high blood pressure and a cerebral hemorrhage – is now in the intensive care unit and supporting by a breathing machine.

Meanwhile, the Health Bureau is investigating an influenza outbreak in a kindergarten on Rua de Nam Keng in Taipa, Journal Va Kio reported.

Four boys and one girl, all aged 2, had developed a fever, coughing and sore throats since March 2. They tested positive for the influenza A virus.

One of the children has been admitted to hospital due to fever but is in a stable condition.

None of the kids had received a flu vaccination.
