The first Filipino women’s cricket team is set to become the champions of the Cricket Hong Kong Women’s League. The team, called the SCC Divas, is composed of domestic workers in Hong Kong.
They have won all seven games held on Sundays from May 6 to May 27 at the Po Kong Village Road Park in Tsz Wan Shan, sunwebhk.comreported.
On June 3, the SCC Divas will play their last two games before being crowned champions. According to team captain Josie Arimas, they will be champions even if they lose the two games.
“On June 3, we have two games left. Win or lose, we are the champions,” Arimas said.
Team manager and officer of The Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers Animesh Kulkarni said the women were strong players. “They practice only once a week on their day off, but they play like veterans and beat their younger rivals,” Kulkarni said.
The SCC Divas were formed in May last year by Arimas and coached by Najeeb Amar and Ricky Waite, who is the head coach of Hong Kong’s national cricket team. This is their first season in the league.
