Executed Pinay Buried in Kuwait
MANILA – Jakatia Pawa, a Filipina domestic worker executed Wednesday in Kuwait, was buried there immediately after her death, a Philippine envoy confirmed on Thursday.
Filipino officials and some locals attended Pawa’s burial at a cemetery in Kuwait, Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, Rene Villa told radio DZMM.
“Dinala [ang bangkay ni Pawa] doon sa parang prayer hall at marami namang nakiramay na mga Kuwaiti rin. At pagkatapos dinala doon sa libingan. Kaming mga nasa Embassy ay naroon din at ini-witness ang paglibing kay Jakatia,” Villa shared.
“Maayos naman po ang paglilibing,” he guaranteed.
(Pawa’s remains were brought to the prayer hall and many Kuwaitis condoled with her. Her body was brought to the cemetery afterwards. Embassy officials were present and witnessed her burial. The burial had been proper.)
Jakatia was sentenced to death by hanging for the 2007 murder of her employer’s daughter.
The Embassy has sent photos of the burial and their report to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila, Villa said.
Just minutes before the Embassy’s confirmation of Pawa’s burial, her brother, Col. Gary Pawa of the Philippine Air Force, said their family has yet to receive any update about her remains.
“Ang hiling lang natin doon sa Kuwait Embassy ay mailibing nang maayos ang kapatid ko at saka iyung dapatma-feedback-an man lang kami kung nailibing ba nang maayos ang kapatid ko,” he said in a separate DZMM interview.
“Kahapon hanggan ngayon po, naghihintay kami na ma-feedback-an kami, hanggang ngayon wala pa.”
Up to the end, the Filipina’s family maintained her innocence, saying she was only framed up by her employer who allegedly stabbed her own daughter to death after catching her while having intercourse with her boyfriend.
Gary also maintained his sister never wavered in her statements that she did not kill her ward in 2007 and did not even witness the murder.
A DNA test showed that a bloodstain on the murder weapon did not match her blood type, he said.
Gary lamented that his sister was not given a fair trial.
“Every time nagsalita iyung kapatid ko regarding doon sa victim kapag naglilinis siya ng kwarto, may nakikita siyang hindi kanais-nais, bigla ikina-cut ng presiding official,” he said.
Pawa was allegedly barred from testifying that she often found a male underwear in her ward’s room and that the victim habitually invited her boyfriend to their house when her parents were not around.
“Every time po nagbakasyon ang parents ng victim, iyung boyfriend niya po, pumapasok ng bahay,” he said.
In 2010, Kuwait’s Court of Cassation, the highest court in the Middle East emirate, upheld the death verdict handed down by the Court of First Instance last April 13, 2008 on Jakatia for the killing.
The victim’s family refused to accept blood money, which could have saved Pawa from execution.
Pawa was executed at 10:19 a.m. (3:19 p.m. – Manila time) in Kuwait on Wednesday.
She is survived by her two teenage children and her 90-year-old mother.
