Duterte to Visit Middle East in Feb or March: Yasay
President Rodrigo Duterte is planning to visit some countries in the Middle East in February or March, according to his foreign affairs secretary.
Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. told ANC’s Headstart Tuesday the goal of the President’s trip is to touch base with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East.
Yasay said he is heading to the Middle East after his trip to Italy for the resumption of the peace talks between the government and the communist rebels.
He is also scheduled to visit Pope Francis in Vatican and meet with the foreign minister of Italy.
He said he will be going to the Middle East “to pave the way for the visit of the President, hopefully this coming February or March.”
He added that they hope Duterte would be able to visit four countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
“Nakikita mo ang ginagawa ng ating Pangulo, he is delivering on his promises. Ang overseas Filipino workers have strongly supported him on these promises and he is delivering on that,” he said.
In more than six months in office, Duterte has already visited 11 countries, including 8 ASEAN neighbors, China, Japan, and Peru.
Yasay revealed that they are visiting Myanmar, the only country in the Southeast Asian region Duterte is yet to visit, “within the next month or so.”
