Dengue Cases, Deaths Up in First Half of 2016 Over Last Year

MANILA, Philippines — More than 50,000 dengue cases have been reported nationwide almost midway into 2016, over 15,000 cases more than the 36,972 recorded over the same period last year, the Department of Health said Friday.
More deaths were also recorded from January 1 to June 11 — 207 — compared to last year’s 129.
The Calabarzon accounted for the most cases, with 7,051, followed by Central Visayas (5,510), Central Luzon (5,452), Northern Mindanao (5,044), and Soccsksargen (4,075).
Some regions, on the other hand, reported fewer cases, with the biggest decline in Cagayan Valley (-27.2 percent), Zamboanga Peninsula (-14.8 percent), and National Capital Region (-13.5 percent).
