Binay Promises Pension Fund for Overseas Workers

Vice President Jejomar Binay on Sunday promised to establish a first of its kind pension fund for overseas Filipino workers and help them plan their return to the country.

The 73-year-old former adviser on OFW concerns, also promised abolish the membership fees required by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Binay maintained that his goal is to make working abroad a choice, not necessity for Filipinos.

Before resigning from President Benigno Aquino’s cabinet, Binay also served as chairman of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, and the Presidential Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment.

As Aquino’s envoy for OFWs, Binay raised blood money for Filipinos on death row and pleaded foreign governments for reprieves, but with mixed success.
