Tesda vows to keep OFW training a priority

THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) gave assurances that skills training for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will remain a top priority, especially for those displaced due to recent global crises.

Tesda Chief Danilo Cruz said that upskilling and reskilling training and livelihood programs for OFWs and their dependents may be done here and even abroad.

“All they have to do is to reach out to the Tesda office in their area, or as easy as to download the Tesda Mobile App to access our programs and services,” Cruz said.

According to Tesda, 5,021 OFWs have finished various courses for the first half of 2022, with entrepreneurship, driving, bread and pastry production, and caregiving being the most popular programs.

Similarly, 5,276 OFW dependents also received training from Tesda from January to June this year.

Tesda is also implementing its OFW Reintegration for Skills Employment (RISE) Program with the help of the Overseas Workers Welfare AdministrationPhilippine Trade Training Center and Coca-Cola Philippines. This offers online courses through the Tesda Online Program (TOP) to enable returning OFWs to transform their business ideas into business plans.

The agency emphasized that training programs are also being offered to the general public through the TOP and that they are invited to enroll in its numerous courses, including Practicing Covid-19 Preventive Measures in the Workplace, Barangay Health Services National Certificate (NC) 2, Food Processing NC 2 and Cookery NC 2, among others.

Cruz said that his agency remains committed to improving its programs to produce highly-skilled and globally-competitive workers who can adapt to the ever-changing demands of the industry and provide livelihood programs to all Filipinos.
