NAAWAN, MISAMIS ORIENTAL—-An Overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from this town is now in isolation in a hospital a day after her arrival from Hong Kong.

Naawan Mayor Dennis Roa said his office received information from a concerned citizen that an OFW arrived from Hong Kong on February 2, and seemed weak.

On the evening of February 3, the local government, through the disaster risk reduction and management unit, fetched the 29-year old woman at her house where she lives with her parents and a young niece.

The case was immediately reported to the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH).

“Our rescue team picked her up. At first she was hesitant but the team explained to her the procedure and the mandate of the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) to us to help the DOH monitor possible threat of the coronavirus,” Roa said.

Personnel from DOH-10 took on February 4 a swab sample for testing and the result is expected on Friday, February 7, according to Roa.

If the patient tests negative of novel coronavirus, she would undergo a second swab test the result of which would be available in 48 hours, Roa added.

The patient could go home if she is tested negative in the second swab test, Roa further said.

Dr. Gwendelyn Labastilla, Naawan health officer, said the woman showed no flu-like symptoms.

Roa called for a briefing with Barangay chairs, Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars on Wednesday to clarify the incident so that people are given the exact information and prevent panic.
