Locsin on OFW Execution in Saudi: PH Can’t Adopt Death Penalty
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. on Thursday, January 31, said that the execution of the overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Saudi showed that death penalty cannot be adopted in the Philippines.
“This is why we cannot adopt the death penalty,” Locsin tweeted.
“We lose the argument of respecting our culture which abhors the taking of a human life by a cold formal state justice system when we believe that a state exists to protect life,” he added.

Locsin reiterated his stand following the execution of the OFW found guilty of murder in Saudi.
Ambassador Adnan Alonto said that Saudi authorities carried out the sentence against the 39-year-old Filipina who was earlier found guilty of murder after the Saudi Supreme Judicial Council classified her case as one in which blood money does not apply under Shariah law.
The family of Filipina has been informed of the news and requested to withhold the identity of the deceased for privacy during their time of bereavement.
