KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration Department (NRD) arrested three Filipinos, including a woman, for carrying fake identity cards in Segambut, here this morning.
The suspects were arrested at two locations in Segambut during Ops ID that started at 10pm yesterday.
The first arrest was made at a security post in a flat. The security guard was detained for using the identity card belonged to a Sabahan.
NRD director-general Mohd Yazid Ramli said the 33-year-old man at first claimed that he was Sabahan, however, investigation revealed that he is from Basilan, Philippines.
“He said he came to Malaysia through Sandakan and travelled to Kuala Lumpur using his passport that he dumped after he received the IC from a friend.
“He has been here for a month now,” Yazid said in a statement.
The other two were rounded up at another flat, also located in Segambut.
“The duo, aged 32 and 41, tried to flee through the backdoor after they noticed the presence of the enforcement officers. However, the officers managed to subdue and arrest the duo.
“Upon inspection, we found that they were carrying fake documents to be able to work in the Malaysia. One was working as a waitress in a shopping complex and the other, a construction worker.
“They claimed that they bought the fake identity documents in Kota Kinabalu two months ago with at the price of RM1,200 each,” he said.
Yazid urged security companies to be more vigilant when recruiting new workers, adding that they must employ those who possessed genuine identity cards.
