Zika Infections Spread in Vietnam’s HCM City
HO CHI MINH CITY, Dec. 13 (PNA/Xinhua) — Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City has so far spotted 119 Zika patients in 22 out of its 24 districts, including 14 pregnant women, the municipal Preventive Medicine Center said Monday.
The only two districts of 8 and 11 are free of Zika cases. The center is trying a new method of killing insects using hot smoke to terminate mosquitoes in some districts.
Zika virus is transmitted to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito.
To date, Vietnam has detected 129 Zika cases, including 119 from Ho Chi Minh City, two each in Dak Lak, Binh Duong and Ba Ria Vung Tau provinces, and one in Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Long An and Dong Nai provinces, respectively. (PNA/Xinhua)
