DOH Tracking Source of Norovirus in Zambo City
Amid fears of a possible outbreak, the Health Department has sent an epidemiologist to Zamboanga City to investigate into the source of the norovirus that has left four people dead and dozens ill in the city.
A report on Unang Balita said the Department of Health also sent medicines, such as I-V fluids and Oresol, to hospitals and health centers in there.
Citing health officials, the report said the long dry spell brought about by the El Niño phenomenon has contributed to the spread of the virus.
Health officials reminded residents in the city to maintain personal hygiene at all time and to boil their drinking water to avoid contracting the virus.
Last week, the city health office reported of four deaths due to norovirus, adding that several residents were believed to have been infected. They said norovirus is higly contagious.
Among the symptoms of the virus are diarrhea, vomiting, and low fever. —LBG, GMA News
