9 Pinoys from Saudi Arrested for Fishing in Eritrean Waters
Nine Filipino fishermen have been arrested by the Eritrean coast guard after being caught fishing in the country’s territorial waters.
The fishermen who came from Saudi Arabia are now in custody of Eritrean officials.
The Philippine Vice Consul in Jeddah, Alexander Estomo, confirmed the fishermen had crossed the maritime boundary of the North African nation.
Estomo said the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt will coordinate with the Eritrean government to secure the fishermen’s release.
