4k OFWs Ordered to Stop Reporting for Work in MidEast –Recruiters Group

An estimated 4,000 Filipinos working in oil companies in the Middle East have been ordered to stop reporting for work, a News TV Live report said Friday, citing figures from Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc. (PASEI).

PASEI, the largest group of accredited recruitment agencies in the country, said the number represents 15 percent of its clients, and includes 50 Filipino workers in an oil company in Saudi Arabia.

It added that the affected OFWs have yet to return to the Philippines.

There are at least 2 million Filipino workers in the Middle East, most of them in Saudi Arabia.

PASEI said the layoffs are connected to falling oil prices blamed on oversupply.

It also said that it has received less job orders in the past few weeks. —KBK, GMA News
