P100 & P1,000 Bills Confuse Public; BSP Re-Issues P100 Banknotes
To avoid any more confusion between P100 and P1000 bills, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has started circulating today a new version or re-colored 100-piso banknotes with a stronger mauve or violet color.
“The BSP is issuing 100-piso bank notes with stronger mauve or violet color starting Monday (February 1) to make it more distinct from the 1,000-piso banknote,” said the central bank over the weekend,“ said BSP in a statement on Monday, February 1.
Aside from the stronger mauve or violet color on the obverse and reverse sides, all the other features of the said banknote will remain the same, the Manila Bulletin wrote.
The BSP further assured that the current 100-piso banknotes could still be used for daily transactions such as payment of goods and services. It will “commingle” with the new 100-piso banknotes printed with stronger mauve or violet color until “supplies of the first version last.”
The 100-piso is a New Generation Currency (NGC) design which replaced the old “New Design Series” (NDS) starting December 31, 2015, the NDS has been de-circulated.
Next year, only the New Generation Currency banknotes series being issued since 2010 will remain legal tender in the country.
