NEW YORK – A Filipina domestic worker is suing her employers in New York for at least $75,000 in unpaid wages and unpaid overtime work.
Maria Elena Bolocon worked as a nanny and housekeeper for Aldo and Aurora Sermoneta – owners of the Sermoneta Gloves Shop on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.
The Sermonetas brought Bolocon to the US from Italy last September under a B-1 business visa.
The Sermonetas reportedly promised to pay her $15 an hour and $23 an hour for overtime.
But according to a suit Bolocon filed, she only got paid $11 per hour and was not paid overtime wages.
She claims she was also threatened with deportation when she questioned her employers.
In October, Bolocon escaped from her employers and sued them for human trafficking and a number of labor law violations.
Balitang America reached out to her employers. They have yet to respond.
