LOS ANGELES – Immigrant rights advocates planned to shut down an office of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), by blocking a downtown Los Angeles intersection during rush hour.
Hundreds gathered outside the federal building calling for an end to the deportation of undocumented immigrants, especially Central American refugees.
“We need the Obama administration to keep children and their families and really needs to stand up to this injustice,” said Anthony Ng of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
The protest came as President Obama’s executive order on deportation continues to make its way through the judicial system. Advocates believe it is only a partial solution.
The Los Angeles street closure, part of a day-long statewide series of actions, lasted over three hours, resulting in civil disobedience arrests for some of the protesters.
