CALIFORNIA – Born and raised in Cagayan de Oro, Bryan Alano migrated to Los Angeles at age 19. But as he pursues his passion in photography, he keeps finding ways to help his hometown.
Last year, Alano made the Fishermen Project, giving fish-tracking GPS to fishermen in Cagayan de Oro last year.
This year, with the help of a friend, he created the Moving Parts Project that helps give amputees prosthetic limbs.
“It’s sad to see growing up where you see a lot of people in the streets, you see a lot of beggars… A lot of them just don’t have that opportunity to walk again. It’s a blessing in disguise that my friend Matt is a prosthetist,” Alano said.
In a month, they were able to give Filipinos a helping hand and in some cases, a leg to stand on.
As Alano captures the moment, his friend has to make do with every material he could bring or find.
“We had to improvise a lot,” Matt Alegria said.
“To be able to change someone’s life is just really amazing even in a simple way of having him walk again is amazing to see,” Alano said.
While the duo plans to return to the Philippines in early 2016 to give at least three more patients limbs, they plan on releasing the documentary in mid-2016.
