A teenage Syrian boy based in Dubai let his chance to buy a luxury car slip for the opportunity to help others in need.
The 15-year-old Marwan Masri decided to give eight years worth of savings DH75,000 (around P965,683) to the people affected by typhoon Nona in the Philippines. He had been saving the money to purchase a Porsche in the future.
“How could I not be affected? Sometimes the most important decisions in your life are made in a split second,” a report by Khaleej Times quoted him as saying.
The boy needed no further push to spring into action after finding out that many of the families of Filipino workers working for his father’s clinic were affected by the typhoon.
Masri dreams of becoming a doctor someday, like his father, Dr. Gehad Al Masri.
The report said Masri saved money by not spending cash incentives given by his father. It said Masri gets Dh20,000 under his name every time he gets good grades.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the death toll from typhoon Nona has climbed to 41, at least 24 others were injured while six people remain missing.
Nona’s damage cost is estimated to be around P6 billion while several areas are still flooded.
