Prosecutors are moving the case of a Filipino to the District Court in Wanchai, after they filed 16 charges against him on Nov 10 in connection with a series of burglaries committed while he was staying illegally in Hong Kong.

Danilo T. Canayong, a former domestic helper, appeared on Nov 10 in a Kwun Tong court where he faced three amended charges of burglary allegedly committed in Sai Kung between June 26 and Aug 12, and a charge of breach of condition of stay.

He was found to have overstayed his visa since July 16, 2011.

The total amount allegedly stolen was $33,075 in cash and through ATM withdrawals.

The prosecution added 12 charges relating to his multiple use of a stolen HSBC bank card to withdraw cash totaling $22,075 also between July 26 and Aug. 12.

The charge sheet said he trespassed into a house in Sun On Village, Saikung, to steal two keys.

He then broke into another house in Tui Min Hoi New Village, also in Saikung, and stole $11,000, an HSBC bank card in the name of Christian Spencer Taylor and an Octopus card.

Armed with Taylor’s bank card, Canayong went on a cash withdrawal spree. On Aug. 2, Canayong withdrew a total of $8,000 in four transactions of different amounts. The next day, he took $8,025 also in various amounts, then came back for $6,025 in three transactions on Aug. 4 and a final $3,000 on Aug 6.

The charge sheet had no details about how and when Canayong was caught, but indicated that he was found out to have overstayed on Aug 14.

Magistrate Don So told Canayong his case was being transferred to the District Court, whre the next hearing was set on Dec 1. The magistrate said that, in the meantime, the Filipino would be held in custody.
