LOOK: New Color P100 Bill

MANILA – The circulation of new P100 bills is set early next year following complaints that it looks similar to the P1,000 bill.

The new P100 will be circulated starting January 2016, but the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said the old P100 bills won’t be demonetized.

The new P100 bill will have a darker shade of purple to differentiate it from the bluish hue of the P1,000 bill.

BSP Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo, meanwhile, said there will be no more changes in the other denominations, and advised the public to instead be more careful when paying and receiving cash.

The demonetization process for the old peso bills started on January 1, 2015 and will end December 31, 2015.

The BSP earlier said by January 1, 2016, the old peso bills will no longer be accepted for buying goods and paying for services.

The public, however, will be allowed to exchange the old bills with the new generation bills at banks and BSP offices until the end of 2016.
