61 Isolated in S. Korea for MERS
Moscow (PNA/Sputnik) – A total of 61 people have been isolated after a patient who was previously declared to have recovered from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) was re-diagnosed with the disease, media reported on Tuesday.
Japan’s public broadcasting network NHK reported all those who were isolated came in contact with the patient who has showed MERS symptoms and was later taken to a hospital.
The MERS outbreak began in South Korea in May, and killed 36 people. In July, the country declared a “de facto end” to the outbreak.
The virus is transmitted from camels to people, with limited human-to-human transmission, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The infection causes such symptoms as fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
