Eid Al Adha Likely on September 23
DUBAI: A UAE astronomer has said that Eid Al Adha will start on September 23 as the moon of Dhu Al Hijjah, the last month in the lunar calendar, is expected on be sighted on September 13, media reports said.
Eid Al Adha normally starts on the 10th of Dhu Al Hijjah, when millions of Muslims from Saudi Arabia and other countries converge on Makkah for the annual pilgrimage, reported Emirates 24/7.
The moon of the preceding Islamic month Dhu Al Qidah will start taking shape on August 14, before becoming a full moon onAugust 16, the start of 11th lunar month, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Planetarium Manager at the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information was quoted as saying.
“This means that Dhu Al Hijjah moon will be seen on September 13 and Eid Al Adha will be on September 23,” he further said.
September 23 is a Wednesday, which means the public sector could have a four-day break before resuming work on Sunday, September 27, said the Dubai-based news portal.
