HOLLYWOOD – Filipino American talents are going up against each other for the 2015 Emmys best original song.

For “This Time,” the song performed by “Glee” star Lea Michele on the show’s series finale, Darren Criss received his first Emmy songwriting nomination.

A prolific songwriter even before he became a breakout star on Glee, the Fil-Am star wrote what became the character Rachel Berry’s final solo.

Criss told Entertainment Weekly that he wrote the original song for the show as a “love note” when the show said its ultimate goodbye last March.

The singer-songwriter, recently seen on Broadway “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” also wrote another song called “Rise” which played in the musical’s penultimate episode.

The star is up against a fellow Fil-Am and Broadway veteran, Robert Lopez.

Lopez and his wife, Kristen Anderson Lopez, have two nominated songs for this year’s Emmys: “Kiss An Old Man” for the show “The Comedians”, and for “Moving Pictures” the special opening song that they wrote for the Oscars.

Other nominees in the category include “You Gotta Believe” from “How Murray Saved Christmas,” “Cool with It” from “Inside Amy Schumer”, and “Papa’s Goods” from “Sons of Anarchy”.

The Lopezes recently did the world premiere of their new musical “Up Here” at the La Jolla Playhouse.

The musical comedy has been extended to run until September 6.

Television’s best talents and nominees are expected to attend the Creative Arts Emmys and Primetime Awards show this September.
