Pinoy Accountant Nabbed for Theft Case
REDWOOD CITY, California – A Filipino accountant was arrested and charged in the US Virgin Islands with stealing more than $24,000 from his employer.
Rommel Sofia is facing three charges of theft, false accounting, and concealing and transferring allegedly stolen money, according to a report by Virgin Islands News Online.
Sofia’s employer is Island Services Ltd.
Sofia was arrested on July 1. He reportedly told investigators that he used the money to keep up with his mortgage payments in the Philippines.
He also reportedly used the money to expand a jewelry business he owns, and to buy a farm and residential lots and other properties.
He is due back in court on July 24.
