MANILA, Philippines — The remains of Jupiter Adrias, the overseas Filipino worker killed in a rocket attack in strife-torn Libya last month, is arriving in the country on Saturday.
This was confirmed by the office of Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is also presidential adviser on OFW concerns.
The attack on the northeastern Libyan town of Zawiyah, in which Adrias died, also left three other Filipinos, four Libyans and another African wounded.
On Monday, Adrias’ family sought the help of Binay’s office for his body’s repatriation.
“The OVP coordinated with the Department of Foreign Affairs for the repatriation and with the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration for whatever assistance they may give,” Binay said in a statement.
His office will also help bring Adrias’ body home to his province, Capiz.
Adrias’ sister, Jane Rose, said the 31-year old OFW had been working for two years in Libya, first as a salesman for a clothing brand and later, as a pastry chef.
But records at the Philippine Overseases Employment Administration show he was employed at Al Bareeq Cleaning and was scheduled to return to the Philippines this month after his contract expired.
Binay reiterated the government’s call for OFWs in Libya to return home.
Libya remains under Alert Level 4, or mandatory repatriation, which means all Filipinos in the North African country should leave, with the government shouldering their repatriation expenses.
