52 New MERS Cases Reported in Over a Month

JEDDAH — The Ministry of Health registered 49 new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases during Ramadan, Makkah daily said on Monday.

Most of the cases involved people who did not mix with camels. The desert animal is considered to be the main cause of the deadly virus.
Quoting its Control and Command Center in Jeddah, the ministry said during the first five days of Shawwal (July 6-10), three new cases of coronavirus were reported.

The ministry said all government and private hospitals in the Kingdom are strictly committed to the directives of the World Health Organization (WHO) concerning the precautions that the medical cadres should take in dealing with the confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus.

Since the virus was first discovered in the Kingdom in September 2012, about 1,700 people have been affected. They included Saudi and expatriate men and women in various age groups.
