14-day Quarantine Would Shorten Vacation Time, Says OFW

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who returned to the Philippines from Macau on Sunday said the required 14-day quarantine against the 2019 novel coronavirus will take too much from her limited vacation time.

According to a Monday report on 24 Oras by Saleema Refran, OFW Cindy Ronquillo had arrived in the Philippines just as the Palace ordered several travel restrictions to combat the virus outbreak.

Among the directives of the President is a mandatory 14-day quarantine for Filipinos returning to the country from China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

An employee from the Bureau of Quarantine informed Ronquillo and her fellow passengers that they were required to undergo a home quarantine.

“Hindi po kayo puwedeng lumabas ng bahay ng 14 days… bawal din pong may pumunta sa bahay ninyo para hindi po tayo, if ever, makahawa,” the employee said in a video taken by Ronquillo.

The Department of Health said the quarantine is necessary to contain the virus.

“Oh mag-book na kayo ng 20 days o 30 days,” Ronquillo jested.

“‘Yung mga five to seven days [vacation], extend extend niyo na. Home quarantine lang naman, hindi naman dito maka-quarantine talaga.”

The Philippines so far has two confirmed cases of novel coronavirus, one of these two patients has died. As of posting, there are 48 cases pending confirmation. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BAP, GMA News
